Asheville Area Labor Day Happenings

Labor Day weekend is already upon us, the kiddos are back in school and this will be their first "vacation" since their return.

"Labor Day, the first Monday in September, is a creation of the labor movement and is dedicated to the social and economic achievements of American workers. It constitutes a yearly national tribute to the contributions workers have made to the strength, prosperity, and well-being of our country."

If you are staying in the Asheville area this holiday weekend, here are some activities you may want to consider.

Bacon Fest at Highland Brewing

The Beer City Cup

Shindig On The Green

August 30-September 2, 2013: NC Apple Festival
Downtown Hendersonville features more than 150 vendors lining eight blocks of the main event area. There is continuous entertainment from 10 AM-10 PM each day. The King Apple Parade, always held on Labor Day, culminates the Main Street activities.

August 31, 2013: RockFest
Emerald Village has free live music, guided tours of mines, gem mining, gold panning, and the one-of-a-kind underground Black Light Mine Tour.

September 1, 2013: Kite Festival
Located at more than 5,000 feet in elevation, the Beech Mountain town meadow makes it easy for all ages to sail their kites up to a mile above sea level.

What are your plans for this holiday weekend?
